Service Description

The Actioning Scholarship: Applying the Typology for Scholarship of Engagement workshop of the CEU has been developed to assist Higher Education Institution (HEI) staff with the conceptualization, categorization and planning of their Scholarship of Engagement (SoE). It provides participants with the tools and techniques to classify and describe their SoE across all three HEI legislated core functions (teaching & learning, research and service) as an all-inclusive infused approach. This classification is the foundation for the workshop by the CEU on Scholarship of Engagement (SoE) Assessment System for Societal Impact (SI) Reporting at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Participants need to bring a project idea to the workshop for maximum benefit. Alternatively, and existing project would also suffice to use during the ‘application’ part of the workshop. Course Purpose To enable HEI staff to identify, classify and describe their types of scholarship; using Boyers’ Engaged Scholarship model. The application of the SoE Typology will further assist with the identification of the different types of ‘communities’ (e.g. academia, students, industry & civil society) and the SoE initiative alignment to national and international development drivers (e.g. S.A. National Development Plan & UN Sustainable Development Goals). Workshop Content 1) Defining SoE 2) Types of ‘communities’ in SoE 3) SoE Typology Application: Scholarship types, respective focus areas and purposes Workshop Duration Two hours made up of ¼ presentation and ¾ application by participants.
